Surgical Procedures

Surgical Procedures are in the Hands of Our Experienced Experts

Oral surgery refers to any surgical procedure performed on your teeth, gums, jaws or other oral structures. This includes extractions, implants, gum grafts and jaw surgeries. Oral surgery is usually performed by an oral and maxillofacial surgeon or by one of our periodontists. Our physicians are dental professionals with advanced training in oral surgical procedures.

What are the Types of Oral Surgery?

It includes a wide variety of procedures, including tooth extraction, dental bone grafts, periodontal (gum) grafts, and corrective jaw surgery. Of the various surgical applications, some of the most common are tooth extraction, dental bone grafts, dental implants, periodontal surgery and corrective jaw surgery.

  • REMOVING TEETH AND ROOTS AFFECTED TO THE JAW BONE
  • SEMI OR FULL IMPACTED WISDOM TOOTH EXTRACTION
  • REMOVAL OF GUMS AND BONE ABSSES, CYST AND TUMORS RELATING TO THE ROOTS OF TOOTH OR SOFT TISSUE ORIGIN
  • OPEN AND CLOSED SINUS LIFT APPLICATIONS
  • IMPLANT APPLICATIONS
  • BONE IMPROVEMENT (GRAFT) APPLICATIONS
  • JAW JOINT, MUSCLE PAIN TREATMENTS
  • ROOT TIP (RESECTION) SURGERY

Tooth Extraction

The most common type of oral surgery is tooth extraction (tooth extraction). Extraction may be recommended if you have severe dental caries, gum disease (periodontitis), dental trauma, or wisdom tooth complications. Sometimes tooth extractions are done to prepare you for dentures or other prosthetic devices.

Most dentists prefer to save natural teeth whenever possible, but sometimes tooth extraction may be required to maintain your overall oral health. Additionally, many dentists recommend wisdom tooth extraction as a preventative measure to reduce your risk for cavities, bone loss, and other problems.

Bone Augmentation Graft Applications

Bone grafting is necessary when bone loss occurs in your jaw. There are several reasons why this happens. When your natural teeth are present, the roots stimulate the nerves in your jaw. This signals your brain to send food to your jaw, keeping it strong and healthy. If there is a missing tooth for a while, bone resorption may occur in that area because there are no roots to stimulate the nerves. A dental bone graft restores volume and density to your jawbone so that dental implants can then be placed.

Occasionally, your provider may place a bone graft during periodontal surgery. Advanced gum disease can cause the bone around your teeth to wear away. Bone graft reduces mobility and provides a solid foundation, keeping your teeth strong and healthy.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are widely considered to be the most reliable and longest lasting tooth replacement option available. Made of medical grade titanium or zirconia, these tiny threaded posts are embedded in your jaw to replace missing tooth roots. After the implants have healed, they can be restored with dental crowns, dental bridges or dentures.

Periodontal Surgery

If you have moderate or severe periodontitis, our specialists can recommend gum disease treatment. During this procedure, incisions are made along your gum line and the tissue is temporarily removed from your teeth. Our surgeons will then clean your tooth roots, removing plaque and bacteria that have accumulated under your gums. Finally, the gingival tissue is repositioned and sutured in place. Gingival recession can sometimes occur as a result of periodontitis. In these cases, you may need a gum graft.

Corrective Jaw Surgery

Corrective jaw surgery, also called orthognathic surgery, removes skeletal abnormalities in your jawbones. This procedure may be recommended for improving chewing function, correcting misalignment, or removing facial imbalances. Corrective jaw surgery is also used to relieve pain caused by TMJ dysfunction (TMD).

What is pre surgery evaluation?

Before starting major surgery or treatment, a pre-operative evaluation is made. This is to address current major dental problems.

How is the process?

Consultation

Our dental specialists/dentists will learn the details of your medical and dental history and will review your dental X-ray.

Our dental specialists/dentists will perform a physical examination of your teeth, jaw and mouth and (if necessary) discuss treatment options and timelines.

Treatment

Depending on the results of the examination and x-ray in your dental evaluation, our dental specialists/dentists will begin your scheduled treatment.

On the other hand, if dental treatment is required, we will do our best to complete your dental treatment on time.

Follow-up and Maintenance

Medical treatment is OK if there are no pre-existing dental conditions that need to be addressed prior to surgery.
